Hi.
I am one of Shuly's (and Yael's) suns who worked in the pitum (we have pictures of Hans...), and was responsible for the volunteers in the mid 1970's. I remember traveling with you special people all over Israel when i was just a toddler.
It is very nice to read your comments for your good experience in Gonen.
Currently Gonen is in a process of rebuilding the comunity with new young families. I and my family are going back to the kibbutz next year, and again the Kidengardens are open and working.

I was a volunteer on Kibbutz Gonen on 2 separate occasions: August-December 1977 and also for a month in the summer of 1979. Sarah and Dodik Rottenberg were my kibbutz parents. I have nothing but good memories of my time on Gonen. I met some really great people from all over the world, made some good friends and still have wonderful memories of this place (I also knew at least 2 different volunteers named Stewart). I remember David very well; I was friends with his ex-wife Paula. I worked with Yuval and Benni who were 2 members of the kibbutz (Benni threw me a wonderful going-away party when I left the first time in December 1977). I am hoping to go back there to visit in the future.

I worked on Gonen on three different times, 1977, 1983, and 1985. By coincidence my wife and I are getting together with some fellow volunteers tonight (Carol and Mark from Canada) after being out of touch for 25+ years. I recently reconnected with another Gonen buddy Tom from New Zealand and found and lost another person (Ngaire). A good site to view to reconnect is:

www.lostamigos.net/friends_reunited/

Gonen had its up and downs but is a source of good memories. The members I worked under were fine, good people. I shared cold drinks , sweet cakes and good conversation in their homes after work. Meeting volunteers from all over the world made it a great experience. There were some very special people. I enjoyed hiking and sleeping out in the Heights on the one day off. Swimming in the stream past the cotton fields was a special treat.

I was trying to learn what Gonen is like now and forgot how frozen in time my memories are. Illana was a very sweet and gentle person, may her memory be for a blessing to all who knew her.

My aunt, Barbara McHugh, lived on Kibbutz Gonen from 1970 until her death in 1975. She was sort of adopted by Dodick and Sarah, and was friends with Yael and Ilan. She is buried there, as well. I have been reading the letters she sent the family back in the US, and I am going to Israel in a few weeks and plan to stop in Gonen to see where she is buried. It's my understanding that Sarah and Dodick passed away, but I would love to meet or talk to anyone who remembers her, but have no idea if anyone who was there at the time is still there. Did any of you know her, or can you point me in the right direction?

I was at Gonen in 1970-1971. I was there as part of an Ulpan sponsored by the kibbutz. Our teacher was Ora (Tzipi's sister). I remember many of the names mentioned by others. I have not been back, though, because I prefer to remember Israel and Gonen as it was. From what I hear, the years have improved neither of them. I left Gonen to join another kibbutz - Kibbutz Adamit near the Lebanese border.

I lived on Gonen in 1971/72. It was a great experience. I went back in 1985 for a visit. We saw Sarah R. The people I remember are Sarah and Dodick, Yael the nurse and Ilan Blum. The volunteers I remember are Lenny Spector from Bayonne N.J. Matie Aledorf from South Africa, and Ina Neubauer from N.J. I've always wondered what has happened to all of these people. Living on Gonen was like one big party. I would love to hear from anyone who was there when I was.

I lived in Gonen from mid 1974 to '75. The head of the Volunteers at this time was a fellow named Shuley (sp?). I have fond memories of my time there, and often wonder what happened to some of my dear Dutch friends. Also, I really miss those shacks.
